About Us:~

*-The Green Mountain Cloggers Exhibition Dance Team was established in 1992 under the direction of instructor and choreographer Hillary Barcomb, who at the time was 13 years old, and had already won several free style competitions in Burlington Vermont , and Durham North Carolina, and Barre Vermont. She also was invited to instruct an original routine at a clogging workshop in Barre Vermont at the age of 14. I also want to give alot of the credit to my mother, Marcia Mayo Barcomb, who was willing to drive me every where and support me during the founding of this organization. Thanks Mom!

*-  This group performs all over the state of Vermont and beyond. Some of these shows include area state fairs such as, Addison County Fair and Field days in Vergennes VT, Vermont State fair in Rutland VT, Washington County Fair and Field days in Barre City VT, Windsor County Agricultural Fair, Connecticut Valley Fair in Bradford VT, Tunbridge World's Fair, Franklin County Fair and Field days in Swanton VT, Bondville Fair in Manchester VT and Orleans County Fair and Field days in Barton VT. This organization also donates their time performing for local senior centers, and elder care centers such as, Montpelier Senior Center, Thompson Senior Center, Quin Town Senior Center, Berlin Health and Rehab, Gifford Elder Care, Eden Park Nursing Home, and Tranquility Nursing home. They have also performed at private parties, and weddings, and for other organizations such as, the Elk's Club, and the American Legion,  Moose Club, VFW and various Vermont state granges. We have participated in the Randolph 4 th of July celebration parade for MANY years. Among the 100 entries that participate each year, we are proud to have won 4th place for our demonstrations on our moving float!

*- We dance MANY different styles of clogging such as, old fashioned Appalachian flat foot style clogging, (Appalachian Clogging is an energetic, rhythmic dance form that is typically performed to Bluegrass music), as well as Irish jig stepping, and Buck clogging, French-Canadian clogging, and American tap dancing. Also mixing it up a bit with jazz, hip-hop, and gymnastics, and precise formations! A lot what we do is very similar to the very popular "river dancing".

Clogging is a type of folk dance that has different styles depending on where you are in the world.
Flat footing, as clogging is sometimes called in the United States, was originally an American folk dance which came from the mountains of North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia in the south.
Clog dancing involves wearing hard soled shoes and the tapping of the feet to the beat of music to create percussion sounds. The movements and sounds are in time to the music.

Two forms of clogging are most commonly recognized in the United States, traditional and modern.

The traditional clog dance form is the Appalachian flatfoot in which cloggers dance to live bluegrass music and string music such as the guitar, the fiddle, and or the banjo.
Modern cloggers tend to dance in groups clogging in perfect unison to recorded music. All genres of music from country to rock are a part of modern clogging.

*- Our music consists of anything from, old time folk blue grass, to Celtic music, pop, rap, classic and new country, soft rock, and classic rock, alternative, oldies, and dance mix. Just about ANYTHING! We have our own style in our choreography that makes us different than any other clogging group you will find in Vermont.  We like to spice up what we do with spunk, sass, and high energy.

We will never forget where the original clogging roots started, which is why we always mix in traditional style dances in our performances.

Please view our " History on Clogging" web page for MUCH more information

*- This group also attends clogging workshops out of state, with the Granite State Cloggers in Manchester New Hampshire, and the Yankee Doodle Cloggers in Melrose Mass, and the NERCC in Burlington VT, to spend the whole day dancing with hundreds of other dancers and learn choreographed routines from a nationally accredited clogging instructor. We also participate in freestyle competetions, where our group has earned first place and two second place awards. In the evening we have the honor to participate in a group exhibition, where we have a chance to show hundreds of other dancers an original Green Mountain Cloggers Exhibition Dance Team routine!
